1973 Schwinn "Sports Tourer" 10 speed bicycle. This classic was manufactured at Schwinn's legendary Chicago, Illinois (USA) plant in February 1973—serial number, BJ-++++++. The "kool yellow" colored frame is a hand fillet-brazed, 4130 chrome-molly, and therefore considered very light weight for its day. Frame size is 24 inches, measured from the center of the crank to the top of the seat tube. The very true 27 inch chrome wheels are mounted with new 27 inch black-wall tires. Chrome front tubular fork and a factory chrome weld-on kickstand. Shift through the 10 speed gears via the twin, stem-mounted chrome shifters. Crankset is a alloy 3 piece cotter-less Nervar (made in France). Derailleurs are top quality, marked "Schwinn Approved." Hand brakes are mounted front and rear, center-pull design with Schwinn Approved "safety levers" or "suicide levers." The alloy handlebar and stem are factory Schwinn Approved. The yellow handlebar tape is new and recently applied. The black seat is an original Schwinn Approved. This wonderful classic road bike has been refurbished. At the time of its 1973 production, this was considered one of the best American made 10 speed bicycles Schwinn built. Schwinn eventually discontinued the "Sports Tourer" at the end of 1975.
